ABV%: 14.5%
Pack Size:
6 x 75cl

Hints of jasmine and peach stone aromas make this perfect with braai baked chicken tagine

Inspiration:
Our Landscape wines come from inland vineyards which are hot and baked, parched and dry, where only drought resistant grapes can thrive, searching deep into the soil to soak up nutrients, and truly expressing the terroir.

Tasting Note:
Grenache Blanc is a super sensual variety with a strange and pithy otherness. Ripe stone fruit, jasmine and guava abound on the nose and the palate is underpinned by Swartland’s bright sandy texture.

The winemakers' notes:

“Known for its influence in the Languedoc region of the southern Rhône, we see Grenache Blanc in South Africa becoming a really popular grape variety, both for its sustainability and also for its unique exciting and botanical appeal.  A favourite of The Capeography Co. range, there is no better place to capture Grenache Blanc than in the Swartland. This drought resistant cultivar is one of the few to really express the terroir of this region through its wines. The grapes flourish in the heart of the wheat belt region of Swartland, where the hot, dry, shale soils give wine a pithy texture and marvellous mouthfeel.

For Landscape Grenache Blanc, we’ve chosen young dryland bush vines that have already learnt to adapt to and tolerate the intensifying dry climate conditions of the Cape. Grapes are harvested in the cooler, early hours of the morning and packed into a chiller prior to hand sorting then pressing into steel fermenters.  Our team prefers stainless steel to ensure the expression, purity and characteristics of this variety to shine through. To enhance the mouthfeel and texture, we keep the wine on its lees in tank after fermentation is complete. It is then gently racked and filtered before bottling to capture the full flavour.”

Perfect with steak from the braai!

Inspiration:
Our Seascape wines come from coastal vineyards that can see and smell the sea.  Here the cooling coastal wind that blows off the cold Atlantic slows the ripening process, giving sun-loving grapes greater finesse and elegance.

Tasting Note:
Silky plumminess and dark chocolate notes.

The winemakers' notes:

“Malbec has become increasingly fashionable in South Africa and it was a real challenge to find the right vineyard to make this wine. This was mainly due to the fact that pure Coastal region Malbec is a relatively new phenomenon in the Cape and defining its regional style was our mission here. We ended up choosing young blocks (that will just get even better over time) of trellised vines from two key areas, 60% from Swartland and 40% from Paarl. Standing in these Coastal vineyards, you can actually see and smell the Atlantic Ocean. This is a definite plus given the heat these sun-loving grapes endure each day, as each afternoon cool breezes blow in off the ocean which slows down the ripening process. This helps capture the aromas within the fruit from early in the growing season and adds greater finesse and elegance to the final wine.

The grapes are picked ripe and in the early hours of the morning whilst it’s still cool.  After careful hand selection, they are pressed and fermented in stainless steel to ensure all the Malbec flavours and vibrant plum colours are extracted. After fermentation, the unoaked components of this blend are kept on their lees, then racked and gently filtered and bottled. This really is a true expression of Coastal Malbec. ”

The Capeography Co. Cloudscape Cinsault

Region: W.O. Paarl
Vintage: 2016
ABV%: 14.5%
Pack Size: 6 x 75cl
Closure Type: Screwcap
Grape Variety: Cinsault  100%

Food Match:
Elegant layers of plum sauce, soft damson and exotic spices make this perfect with sticky duck finished on the braai

Inspiration:
We chose vineyards lying in the shadow of Paarl Mountain to be the main source of this wine - where a deep underground aquifer is the only source of water for these old dryland bush vines that have stood the test of time (and periods of drought) for over 40 years.  The Paarl is also part of the Coastal region which provides hot summer days that are perfect for even ripening of the grapes. An added benefit is the colder Atlantic breezes and clouds that blow in from the ocean each afternoon, cooling the grapes and capturing the intense flavours and characters of these Cinsault grapes.

Tasting Note:
On the nose this has an abundance of Cinsault’s hallmark cherry, plum and other orchard fruit. The palate has elegant and lovely layers of hoisin, soft damson plum, exotic spices and leafy texture.

The winemakers' notes:

“The age of these gnarly old unirrigated bush vines also offers great fruit concentration. The structure and complexity in the smaller berries brings a subtler colour, added body and passionate flavours to the wine. The grapes are harvested at exactly the right time so they’re not over-ripe nor green. We hand-sort the bunches, gently crush to extract all the juicy flavour (but only enough to retain its delicate colour), then rack partially into old French barrels and the rest into steel where it waits for natural fermentation to begin. The wine is kept on its lees for added freshness and mouthfeel before a blend of the two components is combined, the whole is racked to tank, gently fined, filtered and finally bottled.”

The Capeography Co. Cloudscape Sauvignon Blanc

Region: Elgin
Vintage: 2017
ABV%: 14%
Pack Size:
6 x 75cl
Closure Type: Screwcap
Grape Variety: Sauvignon Blanc 100%

Food Match:
Freshly cut grass, hints of asparagus and sliced red apple flavours make this the perfect match for sea bass grilled on the braai

Inspiration:
Our Cloudscape Sauvignon Blanc comes from vineyards in the Elgin valley, traditionally an apple growing region. The famously bowl-shaped topography of this maritime valley encourages self-regulating cooler temperature control - as the ground heats up, the valley sucks in colder Atlantic air from the ocean, causing clouds to condense and form a protective cover from the sun. This has a huge effect on the ripening process of the grapes and helps capture aromas of freshly cut grass, asparagus and apple flavours.

Tasting Note:
Like all good Elgin Sauvignon Blancs, this is as aromatic as South African Sauv Blanc gets. Aromas of kiwi fruit, lime, sliced apple and pineapple abound on a rich palate balanced with firm grassy notes with a hint of asparagus. Altogether this makes for a hugely pleasing Sauv Blanc entirely true to its sense of place.

The winemakers' notes:

“To beat the heat, Elgin Sauvignon Blanc grapes are picked in the early morning hours and transported to the winery in chilled trucks. The grapes are placed in a chiller room before being gently crushed to maximise all that crunchy appeal. The wine is naturally fermented and kept on its lees to develop added layers of flavour and character. We let this wine ‘speak to us’ which is why our team regularly taste it during fermentation to determine when best to rack it into steel, gently filter then bottle.”
